The sceanery here in this small town is beautiful. I've never been any where else in my travels so far that has as many amazing sunsets.
And the people.... Such people! Why do I stay away?
I must confess, it's been 4 years since I've been home "Alberta now". Growing up in Dorchester has left me with memories that I will cherish forever. Hello to everyone there.
Ron & Karen (Richardson) Mills
On behalf of Mayor John Dalgleish and the Bucks Flats Tourist Bureau we would like to extend our thanks to all who visited with us and participated in the second annual Bucks Flats Scavenger Hunt this summer.
Just doing some late night surfing and thought I would visit my home town. Hi everybody!
What an amazing place to live
I've been away from home for 38 years now, how time flies. I have many fond memories from Dorchester and Sackville. It was a good place to growup.

Someone forgot to count the statue!
I am planing to visit Dorchester next Spring and would like to know if any of my kin folk are still around. I am the son of Basil H. Crossman who was born around Dorchester in the 1800's. I am retired from the United States Army Special Forces and live in Deland Florida.
Please E-Mail me. crossman@bitstorm.com if you have any information on the Crossmans.

I am looking forward to visiting in the summer of 2002. It will be just great to visit people and areas that have and will always be a part of me.
P.S. Hi, to the Malenfant and Savoir families.
Truely yours,
wendall in Ottawa
Dorchester was a great place to grow up and have many great memories. It was a pleasant surprise to see Roy Emmerson and Ron Mills, who I have not seen in many years, submit a note. If you guys see this note, Hello to you both and all the best.
Hi. What's up everyone? Dorchester rules!
Hi everyone. The Shiretown Days Festival Committee is looking at having a school reunion in June 2002. Anyone interested?
I was born in Sackville, and now live part of the year in Yuma (Arizona) and part of the year in Canada. carlzi@c2i2.com
I spent many summers in Dorchester visiting relatives. Mom and Dad were both born there. It is a great place and holds lots of great memories. I hope to visit again. I was last there in 1993. I have made scrap books of Dorchester and Sackville for over 40 years. Hi Florence, Geraldine!
-Joanie
Nice place to visit, what do you think?
When is the next Shiretown Days celebration?
Hi all, miss you, and I miss the snow.
The next Shiretown Days Festival is being held from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16. They have shortened the length of it, but have jammed lots into the four days.
Lived in Dorchester all my life. I left in July 1990 for the Canadian Forces. I loved to come home for a visit every summer and christmas. Now I'm in Petawawa Ont. Hope to be posted back in New Brunswick some year.
I was born and brought up in Dorchester and come home every year to see the old victorian mansion that my family use to live in. Seeing the old houses with victoria gingerbread trim, the historical buildings, and Dorchester Cape brings back memories that warm my heart. A Great place to grow up. My favorites were the Statue downtown, Skating on the open rink at night, and relaxing under the trees at the Anglican Church with its beautiful stained glass windows. Hello Gang!
Love New Brunswick and am planning on moving there next year ... My mom grew up in St. John and I have fond memories of visiting all my family there. The best people are from the east coast.
School reunion in 2002 any further updates? Haven't been home for 10 years but I get the latest updates from the rest of the family. Nice to see pictures of the old hometown. Sam Malenfant if you read this, e-mail me with details of the reunion if possible. leblancps@shaw.ca

Hey. Dorchester is so awesome. Thats all.
The Shiretown Days Festival is being held June 13 to 16th. We are planning DHS school reunion for Friday, June 14th with a Meet & Greet at the school. This is NOT just for graduates. They are hoping that anyone who attended the school at some time will attend. So pass on the word.
How I love to come to this site! Even as a small child I knew I lived in a special place. The scenary is so unforgetable. I would love to see more photos of the Dorchester area. I live in BC, but Dorchester will always be home. Anyone who remembers me, email. I'd love to hear from you. - Mae mlorette@solarwinds.com

Seeking information on Dorchester shipbuilding circa 1800's to add to a home project that I am doing on shipbuilding in The Canadian Maritime Provinces.
Any local historian able to help?
Hi Doug,
To further your research, you might take a look at an online column at www.tantramar.com
The column is called Tantramar Flashback and contains a plethora of information about the history of the area.
Good luck!
Hi Doug,
My brother did a paper while in university (Mount Allison) on Shipbuilding in Dorchester and had an extensive list of ships and their builders. If you are interested, I will get him to contact you by email.
I loved growing up in Dorchester! So many fond memories present themselves to me every day. I hope things are going well.

I recently visited Dorchester. They have some of the most amazing bagels I have ever tasted!
I'd just like the people of Dorchester for being so helpful in the search of my long lost friend, Mr. Jeff Jackson. From now on, we'll be spending all of our time at the Bell Inn. You people are truly special.
I've been in Mississauga, ON for the past 4 years. There is no place in the world like Dorchester. The people, the homes and the ambience. I miss it so much that in 4 days I'll be back there. I've discovered this past year and a half that family is more important than anything. I miss you Dad!
I have lived in Dorchester since 1996 and the people in this community are wonderful, we may have been out-of-towners but you welcomed us in. Thank you Dorchester.
Hey Wendall Estabrooks / Simonne etc., my email address is leblanc@ecn.ab.ca

Lived in Dorchester 1947 -1950, my dad worked at the prison, loved it and have a lot of great memories, visited this past summer, first time in 50 years, big changes but still a wonderful place, my family name was Orr.
Dorchester School is the best place to learn and people here are so friendly. Hi Ralphi and Danika. Well, I have to go.
Love Mel.
I recently attended a wedding in Moncton and visited family in Dorchester. The weather was excellent, the company supurb, and the food at the Bell Inn excellent as usual.
The big bird in the square really makes it's presence known. A fine looking piece of architecture.
A big hello from all the folks that reside in Dorchester, Dorset, England. Situated on the south coast. Take care and god bless you all.
Dave R.
Hey all, this is the first time that I have perused the web site for Dorchester (sorry Sam) and it is nice to see all the comments from everyone.
Wendall, did you come this summer? Cause I didn't see you!!! If you come, you must stop in and see all of us...and by the way, it is Savoie not Savoir....how time erodes all such information.
This has always been a most beautiful town and full of memories that cannot be erased. It was once full of children...and certainly more buildings. Perhaps once again it will be......
Congratulations on the great website! I've been in Toronto half of my life but I still call Dorchester "home". Dorchester was the best place in the world to grow up. I miss it often. A great big down home hello to everyone down there! Have a lobster for me next time!
Well lookie here the big town of Dorchester has your very own web site. I am living in Edmonton Alberta now but you can't beat life back home. I miss everybody lots. Sure the Canadian Rockies are nice (Banff and Jasper) and the snowboarding rocks but it can not beat the colours of a fall day in Dorchester!! Hope to see everybody soon. If your a tourist stop by the old provincial jail (directly behind the village office) and say hi to my dad Andy for me thanks!! If anybody in Dorchester wants to drop me a note feel free, darylpartridge@hotmail.com
Hey it's just me saying hello to everyone in my hometown. Charm don't be so hard on Wendall, after all, he was born in the big city of Sackville. This web site is great, brings back lots of good memories. Charm say hello to Nazs for me. That's it for now.
My body may be in Edmonton but my heart is back east - Moncton born and Cape Breton raised -- I am working on my firmly entrenched Albert & Westmorland county roots - I understand that there was a fire in Dorchester back when? that destroyed the courthouse and records within. Can anyone tell me more!!! Reply to: cthains@telsplanet.net
Fire...wow...good thing you have Dorchester's finest on the job!
What happened?
A very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to everyone out there!!
May you and those you love be blessed again and again.
I hope everyone in Dorchester has a happy new year! A special Merry Christmas to the most entertaining town council in the world! I miss you guys!
I'm going to have to miss the polar bear swim this year but maybe next year I'll be there.
Good luck

I would like to wish everyone a happy New Year.
I'm sure enough glad that I'm from Middleton and not Dorchester like Bill Carter from up the Back Road. Thar's a purty ole beach down at Buck's Flats too. We had a few beers there over the years....
Bubba Buck IS from Middleton (just outside Dorester). I taught him everything I know and he still don't know nuthin'. We do love that Plover Stew-O.
Anyone know the whereabouts of Lion Tower. We worked together a long time ago.
wazzup A.T good old days kickin your @$$ at hockey in the dc rink
Visited Dorchester several years ago. Actually took my Mom there to revisit places she remembered from her teen years. We were looking for traces of the Cole and Chambers families on Dorchester Cape and Dorchester Island.
Thanks Dorchester for a memorable visit.
Are there really that many people from here out there? If they all came back it'd be a city! (HMM)
I can't believe I'm back, it'd be nice to have a reunion with my old classmates from grade 8, good ol' DCS was the best, if any of you are reading this, e-mail me at chocolate_MaliBu@hotmail.com, it'd be nice to see you all again!
Justin, Shouldn't you be doing your homework?
Happy birthday!!
Well, they are in the process of tearing down Raymond's garage right now. Some of you may remember it when it was Weldon's garage. Some of you may remember standing in front of the bay doors discussing politics or hockey, but mostly joking around. I used to get my bicycle tires pumped up there when I was a kid. What a great location and the view behind it is unbelievable. Salut!
Farewell to Raymond's...across the square from Garfield's...
Raymond's..where the older generation gathered to watch and talk about the younger generation...gathered across the square in front of Garfield's or on the lawn by the jail....all waiting for the doughnuts to start...long ago... ..before the wall of despair ... Raymond's...it will always remain... across from Garfield's in the square of our memories....
Raymonds garage.. I have a lot of fond memories from there. There is probably no other location in Dorchester that has had so much verbal fertilizer spread over the years.
Really sorry to hear Ramond's garage is being torn down. Growing up in Dorchester it was as much a part of my life as Garfield's store was. These two were cornerstones to the community and will be missed.

Who remembers the wooden guardrow? What a great place to
grow up. What a long walk to school. How about Dobson's store?
Hanging out at Spark's restaurant on the weekend. Sure do miss
the good old days. Hi, Roy Emmerson.
The garage...man it's just going crazy down there, im gonna have to move back before something else gets torn down...I have too many fond memories of sitting in front of the garage waiting for some official to come and ask what we were doing there at such a late hour. Precious childhood memories! I hope good ol' dogpatch lives forever
Perhaps the person/persons who maintain this website could somehow include some before & after pictures of Dorchester.
Just a thought.

Hi, nice page. I graduated from Dorchester High School in 1942. Was away from east coast from 1945-1971. It is nice to be back in this area. Hello to anyone from Dorchester area.
Just came back from my annual pilgrimage to my good old home town. Things seem much the same there, the Bell Inn great food
as usual and great ice cream at Tim's shop. Nice to see the old
LeBlanc house removed from the square. I really noticed a couple
of places that are real eyesores, particularly the house at the
edge of the prision field. Old cars and appliances lining the
driveway and front lawn. Aren't there any bylaws to cover that
kind of thing, really makes the town look shabby and I'm sure the
next door neighbours who keep their place really nice are not
impressed. Just wondering.
Hello all!
Just taking a quick glance at the Sackville Tribune on line and notice Dorchester has it's own guestbook! Some familiar names, some not, however I did not grow up in Dorchester, but lived there for a few years in High School! Glad to see that everyone is still doing well....Justin...or Frank...which one do you go by now? Take care all...if anyone wishes to drop me a line, feel free...cia

A belated Happy New Year to all. I had trouble finding the Dorchester link.
Dorchester is the best!
does anybody know anything about a prison riot in the late 50's early 60's
I would be really pleased to hear something about it. thank you
adam.lemaitre@sympatico.ca
Hi Jeff,
I don't know anything about a prison riot but there are many local historians who really know their stuff. The first name that comes to mind is Bill Hamilton. Search through his columns at http://www.billhamiltonflashback.ca to see if he's written about it.
Best of luck with your research!
Hello Jeff,
You might also want to talk to some of the prison guards who used to work at the Penitentiary. I was just a kid when the riot happened, but my father worked at the Pen at the time. He is not alive now, but there are still some men left who were there. Bob Edgett is one you could ask or Stan Hattie, Ernie Partridge, or Hank Hendrikson. They are all still in Dorchester. Harvie McWhirter is another one, but he lives in Sackville now.
Good luck with your search.
Cecile! I heard you stopped in and somehow in my old age I forgot1 Can you imagine? I will be emailing you and possibly calling you in the near future.
Dad (Nazaire) often talks about you and wonders where "sweet Cecile" is. Why can't you come here and join your "second family"? Anyone can tell you that I live in a HUGE house and always room for one more.
Anyway, we will talk. Love you MUCH!!!
Charmaine
To those that knew Steve Ison. He passed away on Monday 19 April, of cancer. Armand LeBlanc and some of his family were with him till the end.
I am so sorry to hear about Steve Ison. We were not aware that he had cancer. I remember him very well and will pass the news on to some mutual friends. Please give our sympathy to Steve's family.
Hope you are taking care of yourself Paul. All the best to everyone.
Here is a little something for the grandchildren or children to listen to.Mine enjoy it and I think your's will to. www.americanbridge.com/taters.htm
Sam send me your e-mail address, I've got some old pictures of some of the kids we went to school with. I'm sure you will find them amusing. I know Armand and I had a laugh or two. leblancps@shaw.ca if you want to travel down memory lane.
Sam
Did you get those pictures and if so what are the names?
Paul
Along with the Bell Inn, I've always been particularly fond of the abandoned warehouse out towards the cape. There's a grave marker up on the hill there noting the pasiing of Ebenezer Cole. It's practically buried in the undergrowth ( asuming it's still there ). I can't think of a better place to be lain to rest than high up on that hill, overlooking the split in the river.
Hello Dorchesterans(lol)
Just wanted to let you know if anyone would like to contact me they can do so at sistermary5@hotmail.com.
Have a great summer, smile and be safe!
Happy birthday today Karen Mills (Richardson).
Lived in Dorchester all my young life.
Had Polio in 1942 while attending Dorchester High School, Will be 80 next month and still have fond memories of the old town. Boyhood chum of Steve Izon's father Edgar and still in contact .
Always looking for information about Dorchester, the Cole family of Dorchester Cape, the Chambers family who lived on Dorchester Island, and ships built at the Hickman Yards. Have wonderful pictures of Dorchester taken by my Mom who as a teenager spent summers with the Cole family.
Looking forward to visiting Dorchester someday to enjoy the beautiful scenery
I have lived "next door" to Johnson Mills for sometime now but recently went down there to see the sandpipers. Only saw them from afar but it was still worth it for the scenery (and beautiful sunset.) I plan to go back often.
A warm hello from Busan, Korea! I can't wait to come home just in time for a cozy family Christmas in Dorchester. Nice to read your messages, Sam and Justin. We should meet at the Bell Inn for some fine food and a good chat...you know pie doesn't even exist here?...mmm Bell Inn dessert...mmm nanny Mills' pies...can't wait! jan_dawson@hotmail.com
Hi Paul,
The family had a look at the photos and this is what we think.
Inside the church:
Back row from the aisle, Anthony Murdoch, Maurice Caissie, Randy Timmons.
Second Row from the aisle, Mark Smith, Bill Carter, Paul Leblanc, Larry Legere, ?, one of the Lirette boys.
Front Row from the aisle, Peter Leger, Mike Gillespie, Richard Savoie, Elden Cormier.
That's all we know.
We're still looking at the other one.
Take care and please give my best to Armand and Helen next time you see them.
Sam
Hi Sam
Thanks for the info. I had another photo of the DHS Vollyball team form 1967/68 but for some reason it wouldn't go through. I think Elden Cormier has the photo. Had a good laugh over the photo and names to faces I sent earlier.
Thanks again.
i like this school
What a great site Sam! Hi everyone.
i am in grade 8 and i like dorchester school and i am going in to grade 9 next year and i am going like it in 9. what school am i going to next year high school in sackvile.
Just fresh from a great visit on Oct 10th. Continues to be a place of favourite memories and my 2nd family, the Partidge clan. See you all soon.
Just giving a shout out to all my former DC homies and homettes. Zac, Alex, Nick, David, Lee Ann, Liz, Ashley, Jason, Eli, Sam, Miranda, Brittany, Vanessa, PJ, Alana, Chris, Michi, and Sara.
O...and Kevin Musgrove of course
Couldn't believe my eyes when I found this site. Why I never looked for a "Dorchester" site I don't know. Guess I thought one wouldn't exist for our village. I remember some of you people and am just full of questions, you know "Whatever happened to.....
I saw Richard Savoie on "Songwriters Circle" this week. Second time I saw him. He sang to songs which I thought were quite good!
I spent 23 years in Halifax which I still miss but get a kick out of seeing old classmates. I have to try and remember that when I hear someone hollering hello or Donna that maybe they are calling me. I have forgotten so many names and faces. You never think it is going to happen to you!
I have ran into Eldon C, Susan Bourgeois, Kevin Estabrooks, Barbie Kierstead. I guess the face hasn't changed, just older (and the hair greyer). I hear that Nancy Carter (maiden name) is in Halifax hospital at the moment. Has anyone heard anything?
Had an e-mail from Garda Scott about three years ago. She has about five children (and step in there), lives in Honolulu where her husband works on the naval base at Pearl Harbour. So love to hear from anyone who remembers me or my big sister Donna.
Just thought id say hi to every one from DC.
I ran across this site while doing some family history. My heart got a jolt when I saw Steve's name and of course the messges from Paul Leblanc. Thank you to all who sent cards when Steve passed away in April. All through his illness he never complained once. We have 2 great children Brad 28 and Leah 26. The one regret I have is that Steve was always going to take me to see his childhood home and we never got to do it. Lesson to all, don't put anything off.
Reading through this site I see so many names that are familiar to me as I have heard so many stories. All good of course!
Faye Ison
Edmonton
Here's another site for all former students of Dorchester High. Classmates.com Nice to see all the former students from the past 45 years.
The one bad thing i can say about ol' DC is that it's COLD! That wind of the marsh cuts like a razor! Reminds me of the days when Me, Jordan smith, Roger Croswhaite, and a bunch of other fools would go extreme sledding, before there was such a thing as extreme sports. Pioneers we were!!
My grandfather was Lorenzo Chambers, he was deputy warden at the prison in Dorchester in the late 1800's,One of his daughters was my mother. Would love to know more about my family. Thank you, sebecmary@yahoo.com
If anyone has any memories or stories about Steve Ison I would really appreciate it if they would pass them on. Good or bad! We miss him very much and it would mean a great deal to our kids. You can post them here or contact me at fayei@shaw.ca
Thank you.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to
everyone in my good old home town of
Dorchester. Can't wait until I retire and
finally get to come back to live at least
part- time, because I've got lots of kids
and grandkids here. Would love to
experience a "real" winter for a change
and see piles of snow like when we were
kids. Have a great holiday everyone.
I find myself thinking about Aline (Malenfant) Cormier's family as Christmas comes near. Aline passed away in April. This world is minus one sweet spirited person this year.
Just dropped by to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
Ron & Karen
rkmills@telus.net
Today the temperature is 23 below with a thick blanket of snow. It is the appropriate time to wish you all a Happy Holiday season from Stroud On.
Have a good one.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year from Victoria B.C. Let's hope that 2005 has lots of great adventures.
Hello everyone! I just read an email from my niece Jan Dawson on this site and thought I had better say hi from Dawson Settlement, New Brunswick. We are nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Albert County! We are really "in the boonies", but I compare it to growing up in Dorchester. We love the peace and solitude! I miss Dorchester every day,(I was born and raised in Dorchester),and try to visit my Mom & Dad every week or two. I think Dorchester is the ultimate place to live! It is absolutely beautiful....(just like Dawson Settlement, Albert County!). Take care all! Hi Simone! (Sam)...please let me know when the Shiretown, Sandpiper Festival, and the Terry Fox Run is scheduled to go. Thanks Simone!

My family and I moved to this small town back in 2003. We moved here from Ontario. We have two children and are very impressed with the school system down here. We have been here for two winters, and plan on being here for many more. Dorchester is a great place to live and the people are very friendly. Sure it's quite and some might call it Borchester but those people can't call it home.
Well Hello everyone, just browsing the puter, and came across this site, very interesting to see my neice Jan Dawson, and my cousin Roy Emmerson has been on here. Yes Dorchester is a nice place to live and raise a family, it is kind of boring for my kids now, but In my day we had a lot to do, had more kids in town at the time as well, peoples park was the hot spot then. Ha Ha Ha us party animals........it is quiet here but very nice. No smog, no noise, not hot, just a quiet little village. Say no more. later gator!
Ya all have a great day!
I lived in Killams Mills NB.Went to school in Petitcodiac, left in 1950 to join the army. Inow live in sask. We spent some time in Dorchester in 1990,sure is a beautiful place in the summer time. took lots of pictures, i still miss NB. JOHN DeWOLFE SR.
Dorchester is amazing.... the warehouse and beach were such great times.. awsome dog shark fishing at the warf, the keillor house rules!! Amazing place
Andy Oliver, dan green and johny B forever the kings
Kathy Rossignol(Lewis)just e-mailed me this site. Right on!! Eddie, Carolyn (our daughter), & I just wanted to say Hi. Eddie & I get lonesome for home when we visit mom & dad. Carolyn thinks it's a great place to visit but would not want to live there. She is a true Monctonian. We have been here since 1985 but would love to move to the country in the future after Carolyn graduates. Wouldn't want to ruin her life at 14 yrs. old. Anyway, take care all!
Being part of the "Cormier" Clan on Dorchester Cape was a blessing for myself growing up. Being surrounded by loving cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents was what I needed to see as a child and it was the best time of my whole life to be in such an enviroment. God Bless to the Good People and Family who made a difference in my life. P.S. The fishing was great too and a wonderful memory!!!!
cormiersc@yahoo.ca
I thought I would say hi to everyone back home . I am still in Calgary , Iam coming home for a visit this summer so see you all soon.
I just discovered this site by accident and must say it was a wonderful find. So many names of folks I used to know from growing up in Dorchester - the Back Road actually. So many memories flooding back - Garfield's store, Raymond's garage - nobody mentioned the track but there was a lot of history made there too.
I'm not sure if any of the folks I knew still check this site - many of the entries from familiar names are a couple of years old, but if any of you are, do check in. Always nice to connect. I agree with those who say Dorchester was a great place to grow up. Nice to see people that followed me feel the same way.
wow great to see you found this site Duncan, you hung out with my cousin Richard Emmerson didn't you, or was that just your brother Folten? Well guys been a while since I was on, Dorchester is still quiet, had a lot of rain this May, hope June is better weather, graduation time is coming up, and my first born is graduating. Congratulations goes out to Miranda Dawn Dawson, my beautiful daughter proud of ya honey!
Thanks Lisa for the honorable mention on word about the site. Ha Ha.
Hi Dorchester Fans! A small place with lots of great memories. Here are some things that might make you think or smile when you see the name.....the anglican church....Halloween nights in Dorchester(tying dummies to ropes freaking motorists out)....Mr. Woodhams(principal from hell)Mr Aube(principal from heaven)....shortcuts through the Lewis yard to get to Garfields store at noon hour...Dances at the Rec Center....Bobby Douglas flashing....Still think of Paul and Mark Lirette, The Streaks through town..."Donuts" in the Square.... Garfields store...Shiretown Days....who remembers the when they tore down the old school house?....Eddie fitzpatrick being jealous because I won the prize for picking the biggest Dandilion flower LOL. There are so many more great memories to add. So, if you have a few of your own challenge our memories. I would love to hear from some people such as Betty Robinson, Joanne Swift, Scott and Eric Grover, Tony Dewitt, Donna Monk,,,and more. My email is sistermary5@hotmail.com (because im so saintly and holylike)or rokaloka@nbnet.nb.ca , would love to hear from you.
Got this site emailed by my little sister Lesa Fitzpatrick who got it from my grade school hang out buddy Kathy Rossignol. I thought it was a dirty joke with them two involved, but to my shock it was the real deal, WOW Dorchester is really moving up in the techno world. LOL First wanted to let you know I'm retired from the military and just moved to Sackville, N.B. ( I needed a coffe shop open all year like Mel's and not like the Bell Inn which is only open in the summer hehehe!) My daughter (Tia 14) has moved around so much with her father and myself in the military says she wants to live in Sackville for the rest of her life. Hubby (Jean) has just signed up for another 20 more years service so he moved us home because he is hardly home anyway and Tia and I could not stand to live in QUEBEC blaaaaa. So she will be attending Tantramar Regional High for the next 4 years and then I will probably be back on the road again with the military after she graduates. To add to my dear friend Kathy's memory list of Dorchester I would like to include locations and names of "Dorchester's Party Bars" 1. Race Track - The PIT if you don't have any alcohol just had to look in the woods and you would probably find a 6 pack of Ten Penny or Schooner and if you got lucky a bottle of Apple Wine, 2. Woodlawn Road - Peoples Park, further down the road Mike's Camp, 3. Dorchester Cape - The Inlet on the Mud Flats only on low tide night though, 4. Down Town behind the Fire Hall, 5. Rock Port Tour, in any one who had a car and was not in a hurry.
In the winter any ones car would do as long as it had HEAT, or Laurie Cormier School Bus parked at The Irving.
Who remembers the imfamous Town Cop "Dudley", Hunter's Garden when you had the muchies, "The Dam" our favorite swimming pool, The Tressel hearing the train go by. Well I'll think of more maybe later it would be nice if other people added to the list.
i loved growing up in dorchester!!!!
too bad i cant live their! i now live in victoria bc and have just past my 4th year in the navy. any one from back home who wants to say hi email me @ tag_ghr@hotmail.com
Hi, been a while, well my beautiful daughter Miranda just graduated from Tantramar, Where Doug and I did. Hey Diane I see you remember alot of our party places, hehehe The Rec dances were the best, and peoples park, listening to SUPERTRAMP, they were the best. Nice to see people I haven't seen in a long time, hope more find this site. Dorchester is pretty quiet now compared to the late 70's and early 80's. Im still here but wish I was in Sackville, I love Dorchester but nothing here anymore, Sackville is so much closer to everything. My daughter Miranda will be 18 in August, my son Charles will be 16 in August, and Alan will be 13 in October. Wow how time flies eh? Love to hear from some of the oldies from Dorchester, my email address is Darlene_la@hotmail.com Hey Kathy love to hear from ya some time. Have a good day all............toot-a-looo
I, too just stumbled on this site and it's great to see Charmaine, Duncan and Armand in some of these comments... all Tantramar school buds from not so long ago but seems like forever. All the Best!
I grew up in Dorchester and moved to Moncton for 20 years, but nothing is home like Dorchester! Just moved back a year ago and now living on Woodlawn Road and it's great country here! My daughter Kylie just loves here too.
Like so many commnets that have read, I too have to admit that Dorchester was a great place to grow up. I left 18 years ago for Toronto and I still have very fond memories of great times with old friends. Parties every weekend, summer and winter, Garfields, and of course the track. Glad to see that so many people left their comments. Take care everyone. A big hug to my best friend Florine.
WOW this is a shocking discovery, never would have thought that the little town I grew up in would ever make it on to the web, I am impressed. sounds like there has been alot of changes. well i am comeing home for a visit in a couple of weeks cant wait to see all the changes and hopefully catch up with some old freinds. So if any one reads this that knows me look me up ill be there aug 10.
Dorchester is really awsome its not like moncton in moncton its so crowded!! Dorchester is very small which makes things better*. :)
WOW i didnt know dorchester had enough money for a web site!!!! LMAO!!!!
i actually live in sackville, not dorchester and my crazy mother wrote a comment up there ^
and i felt the great need to write in this thingy. i have never lived in dorchester, but i have a grandmother, grandfather, an aunt and a little cousin (kylie, so is very irritatingly sitting right next to me as i type and cruelly making fun of my bad spelin and gramar skills).....*
Well it was nice to see Dean McMaster on the site, ya for a small place we are on the web. Dean hope you didn't forget your old buddies like Dottie, and Darlene, give us a call when your home sometime so we can go see ya ok.
Hi Dean contact me if you read this, my email address is darlene_la@hotmail.com would like to hear from you and get yours so we can keep in touch more. toot-a-loo
I thought growing up in Dorchester was great. Everything a small town should be with nice people and great community spirit.
I've got some fond memories of going to Dorchester consolidated with Mrs Mitton, Mr Farris, Mr Feindel, Mr & Mrs Aube. I wonder where they all are now? I hope they are well.
If anyone remembers me then drop me a line sometime. I'm living in the UK now and have been here for over 7 years. Was living in Fredericton, NB before that (which is where my parents moved us when I was younger).

Eldon Cormier - If you see this note please contact me. I've been in Calgary for 34 yrs but have thought of you often. May the Lord bless you and your family!
mward@talisman-energy.com
Hello Mike Ward,
I will pass your message on to Elden.
I'm very impressed with the way Dorchester is profiled on this site. I have a lot of wonderful memories of this Village. My Dad was born and raised here. I have good memories of wonderful people - Eldon Cormier, Steve Ison, my cousin Ellen Ward, Paul Leblanc and so many other gracious people. I have been away from Sackville and Dorchester for nearly 35 years - I hope I can take my family down for a visit one of these years - God willing!
Dorchester has always held a warm place in my heart. I was recently back for a few days and was reminded how peaceful I feel when I am there. Dorchester has always felt like a second home to me.
I was born in Sackville, N.B now live in Lethbridge, Alberta and Yuma Arizona
carlzi@c2i2.com in winter
carlzi58@shaw.ca in summer
Well, I was in Dorchester for a couple of weeks in May and what horrible weather you guys had. Tewlve days of rain. Robert and I couldn't even get a round of golf in. It was still nice to see the old place and the family once again. It's really to bad I can't get there when the festival is on. I'm sure there would be someone I would know. I tried to see Peter Buck and Bill Carter, I'm told they hang around the Champlain Place but Armand and I could find them. Did see Richard Savoir who I haven't seen since the late sixties. He hasn't changed a bit only in age. Of course haven't we all. The old town hasn't changed much but the memories are still there. It was a nice town to grow up and live in,some of us just couldn't see that at the time.
Best wishes to all.
Paul LeBlanc

Merry Christmas to everyone down home and best wishes for the coming year. Hope Santa is good to you all.

After travelling the world playing my pipes at the war graves of COmmonowealth servicemen I am about to 'come home' to Wales.
I am researching to put right a great wrong. Myths, rumours, lies and white washes have dishonoured the graves of five Candians for too long. Four of them lay in graves in Wales but one was returned to Dorchester in 1919.
The myths range from them being accused of treason, mutiny and cowardice. Tourist are even being told these myths when they visit the cemetery in Wales.
Gunner John F HICKMAN from Dorchester and his mates will in the near future also 'come home'.
It is my intention to bring their tru story out to the media when I play my pipes in tha wee cemetery in Wales. There I will play the only piper's lament appropriate to these men "GOIMG HOME".
Should any wish to send a wreath in memory of these men so far from home I will be honoured to take it and place it on your behalf.
It is possible my tribute will be held on ARMISTICE DAY (11.11.06) but as yet I have some research to do.
These lads had fought a bloody battle in France and all they wanted was to return home to Canada.

I too stumbled onto this site and was very surprise to see so many familiar names. I moved away 32 years ago but didn't stray far. Dorchester was a great little place to grow up in. I think I still hold the record for the biggest house party in 1972. There are so many names I recognize, I'll just say hi to everyone. To answer a couple of question: Yes Ebenezer Cole grave stone is still visible, the Lorette boy in the photo was Henry and I listened to Richard Savoie but was disappointed he did not play my old favorite "No Conversation" by the Mystical Spectrum. The Summer of 69 in the Catholic Church basement with a/m band to entertain us was a summer I'll never forget.
See ya.
Wow , this site makes me feel old or better still older. Names I have not seen for many decades. Great job on the site. Have been back to Dorchester many times but some of the stories bring back some geography I had totally forgotten about. Retird from teaching if you can believe it and tree kids all out and on their own. Great to see the comments will send site on to some of the old crew I keep in thouch with. keep up the good work. My email address landry_bj@hotmail.com Does anyone know where Mike Greenburg ended up, last time he was in the forces?

I grew up in Dorchester, graduating in 1965 from DCHS and have many fond memories of the town and it's people. This site has lots of names that I remember and I've seen the pics that Bernard talks about and I share his feelings although he is much older than me. My E-mail address is "rrod@nb.sympatico.ca"
Great web-site. My brother Tom(jughead) steered me to this site. Great fun to see so many familiar names. Bernard Landry..you wouldn't know this but you are the subject of one of my childhood stories. Hope to share it with you some time.
Growing up in Dorchester was the best. You could walk anywhere. The views across the marsh, Shepody bay, Dorchester Island..short-cuts to anywhere..swimming down at the Dam...gravel roads..hanging out in the square...basketball games at the gym on Sat. afternoons(go black&gold!)..track&field days at the race-track..drinking suds at the racetrack..raking blueberries..Garfield's..I could go on for ever. Wish I could go back..if you know what I mean.
Hey Sam, bet you still know the words to that old high-school anthem.
Hey Bernie, love to see those pics.
Henry Lorette
hlorette@nbnet.nb.ca
Hey Henry,
Come students all, let's march along;
For Dorchester High, we're singing our song.
Raise your voices in chorus bold.
Raise our colours of black and gold.
Let's show our school that we are true, in everything we say and do.
Sing loud and clear our victory cry.
Give three cheers for Dorchester High, Rah Rah Rah
Dorchester High fight on, on, on.
Don't give up til you've won, won, won.
We're beside you all the way.
Show us that this is our day.
...Repeat that chorus..
Wasn't sure I would remember it and some of it may be wrong, but after all these years, I can still conjugate etre and avoir from Mrs. Bourque's class. I'll bet most everyone still can too, including Charles Hunter.
Take care everyone.
Sam

Has anybody got info regarding Johnson's Point? I'm especially interested in a lake I once visited with Frank Robinson in 1962-63. There had once been a mill there and boat building nearby.

Mrs Gillespie wrote the school song. Can't remember her first name.Mike's mom.I can still see her playing it during assembly. Does anyone remember the old school jackets. Big deal in those days, along with the school vollyball and basketball trips on the old bus.I was thinking of the old days and it was 50 years ago I walked into the old school. With Fay Boomer and Christine Ison giving us the grand tour and introduction to our first teacher Miss McScffery not sure of the spelling.
I also have the picturesof the old town. Brings back lots of memories.
Cheers
I didn't know this site existed. Nor did I think this message board would be this active. Just wanted to say hi to everyone from DC!
Attended the funeral of Mrs M. Buck last Saturday and ran into some people I haven't seen in some time. Pat & Joan Buck , Barry & Terry , Wesley , Alma and Dorthy Armour from Taylor Village , Byron Walton and Don Buck . We took the Rockport tour on the way back , very different in the winter. Ran into Cedric Coombs, Kieth Tower and George Knockwood at Ceddies place in Dorchester and stopped at Gary Collwells new place on Water Steet for a cold one . Another late night at the controls .. ttfn bernie
Wow - I can't believe I found this site. I see some names I remember mentioned - Landrys, Greenburgs, Molenfants...
So, we moved away from Dorchester in about 1963. My parents lived there about 20 years w/ Dad working at the pen.
Anyone remember us? (Just to prove that Dorchester never leaves your heart no matter how long you are away - I found this site while looking for real estate listings for the old home town!)
I lived in Dorchester many years. 36 Guard Row along side Barbara Stultz and family. I see her name here quite often. I wonder if she remembers me?
I'm at " rrod@nb.sympatico.ca "
Kerry Leslie (Lowden) Hi. Wodering if you were the younger sister of Donnie , Dougie and David Lowden . You would have lived on the Coner Hill if my memory is correct. Where are Donnie & Dougie these days? Bernie Landry
Wow! I was talking to Dean McMaster yesterday on the phone and he told me about this wonderful site. I was just browsing and enjoying the memories of the Back Road. I use to live next door to The Mathesons. They were such wonderful people to us. I remember going fishing down through Fillmores pasture with Dean. Remember the song Dean? You were my life line...and I Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Bonded for life, I will always be there for you, I'm just a phone call away.
Hi to Kathy Lewis. I took down your email address. I often wonder what happened to the folks I went to school with there. Like Joanne Swift, Tony DeWitt, Trisha Webb.
Well, I'm married to the most wonderful man in the universe. I am a mother of 7 (4 biological and 3 step) and a grandmother to 4 and another on the way. Living in Prince George, BC. I've been here for 17 years. Only been home twice but planning another trip in the next year of so.
Anyone know what has been happening with Mrs Crossman...she was my grade 4 teacher. She was so wonderful to me.
Hey to everyone. If you have any news, just post it or email me at debandpat@hotmail.com
To Debbie Hansen - Mrs. Crossman passed away several years ago - a very fine lady. I graduated in 62 We were the first class to use the new gym for our graduation. I graduated the year before Bernard Landry but look much younger. to the class of 64 - WES armour is one of the buisnessmen chosen to be mentioned in the book /BUILDING THE BEST; LESSONS FROM INSIDE CANADA'S BEST MANAGED COMPANIES by Deloitte partners. Just an example of how smart the graduates of DHS all were. BY THE WAY I am sure that Jackie Gillespie wrote our school song. She was always great to help out our school. Harvey Hanoomansingh, is now living in Sackville His son Ian is a CBC broadcaster as for myself I am very fat and lazy still living in Taylor Village by myself retired from nursing kids grown up. Dave Cochrane our super math teacher is now retired and living in Riverview I really enjoy reading the news on this website.
Hi there everyone.
I am doing family research on the MacFadden and Doherty families from the Dorchester and Johnson's Mills area. I would especially like to get in touch with Bruce Crossman. My Aunt gave me his name and I would love to exchange info with him.
If you read this please get in touch with me at mittsmouse@yahoo.ca
Thanks everyone and have a great day.
I love the Bell Inn and the whole area ...reminds me of the little town I live in now.
Hope to hear back from someone.
To everyone from home. I was just digging around the Dorchester site and noticed this message board. Loads of names that are familiar...Jughead, Henry, my old friend Betty. I live in Gatineau Quebec working for the Federal Government...I try to get home a couple of times a year but rarely see anyone I know. Best wishes to you all and hope to see some of you at my parents 60th wedding anniversary this summer.
Hey Bonnie, like me I find a lot of familiar names too....but only because I am into the genealogy aspect of it. Did you know any Hicks? Or are you into the genealogy thing?
I was just to Saint John taking care of my mother and had time to spend the weekend in Sackville. My aunt still lives in the house that my grandparents lived in. My grandmother was from Dorchester and my grandfather was from Johnson's Mills. I visited the Cenetath in Dorchester as there was an ancestor's name on it. A couple of years ago when I was in Sackville we went to the Bell Inn to eat and boy the food there is scrumptious. Talk about a 'home cooked meal'.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day, Dorchester!
Hi Bernie. Re our conversation last evening. I have years books for 1962 and 1964.
Hi Bonnie Dee! I do get to Ottawa from time to time and would love to get together!! Email me at bnoakes@unicef.ca with your contact information.
Hey to everyone down home.
Hi Nancy, there were loads of Hick's in the area but non that I was close to. I have a cousin in BC who has done an extensive genealogy on our family. His website is www3.telus.net/chignecto/ you may find it useful. Cheers
i there Bonnie.......Nope no names that are familiar to me. I didn't got through all the 'surnames' but will look at it again.
Thanks.
Have a great day everyone. (smiles)
HAPPY SAINT PATTY'S DAY TO YOU ALL...HOPE YOU WORE YOUR GREEN TODAY....LUCK OF THE IRISH SMILE ON YOU ALL.
